Summary

On 19 January, Carter arrived in Luxor, meeting officials including Chief Inspector Tewfik Boulos. 20 January saw Callender return from Erment; they visited Gurna and Lythgoe. On 21 January, telegrams were sent requesting to open the tomb on 24 January. During the 22 January Valley visit, rubble was found at the tomb entrance, the linen pall ruined, and locks broken. On 23 January, Baraize cleared the entrance; official handover set for 25 January. 24 January brought ministerial authorisation to open the tomb. On 25 January, the tomb, laboratory, and magazine were formally handed over; the pall’s destruction confirmed. By 26–27 January, the coffin was inspected and the tomb opened for select visitors. On 28 January, visitor rules were set—Tuesdays only without special permission. From 29–31 January, work began preserving objects, signing a new concession, and preparing the magazine. 1–3 February saw repair of gold fans and bows; Lacau visited. On 4–5 February, the coffin was cleaned and photographed; bows recorded. 6–7 February preservation of cosmetic vase No. 211 completed; work began on alabaster vase No. 210. From 8–11 February, vase cleaning continued, interrupted on 10 February by a government party. By 17 February, alabaster vases were complete; “maces” identified as trumpets. On 18 February, Anubis emblems were cleaned; a reed was identified as a candle. 21 February work on the Thoueris couch began, part of a symbolic set of three couches. By 1 March, major objects were finished; 27 Feb visit from Prime Minister Ziwa Pasha noted. March was spent photographing and packing; 19 cases sent to Cairo on 31 March. That same day, the tomb and laboratory were closed for the season.

The journal is housed within its original black ring-binder, stamped "Walker's Loose-Leaf Book, Cover Number 138" on the inside front cover. It contains 148 loose-leaf, graph-lined pages. TAA Archive i.2.1, pages 137 to 147. Entries for January 19th to March 1st are typewritten, the final entry 'March 1st to 31st ...' are handwritten.
