With duck’s heads in front.
In very bad condition, the leather <of the sole> having
perished and having become black and
resinous looking/<pitch-like> and having stuck to other
articles below. The letter/<leather> of the sides had also perished
Sole = new hide and become brittle but has not stuck.
Sides = tanned
leather
A band of beadwork across the front was
sprayed/<treated> with <a solution of> Canada balsam in xylol <applied with a pipette.>
The sides and bottoms were sprayed/<treated> with
a strong solution of celluloid in amyl
acetate applied <at first> with a pipette and were
afterwards sprayed. with a dilute solution
of celluloid in amyl acetate and acetone.
On bottom
this or any
treatment
was useless.
The sides were afterwards treated with a
solution of Canada balsam in xylol <applied with a pipette>. This lather
was fairly effective for the pieces of the sides
remaining.
