               Vitis vinifera L. <[>Vitaceae<]>; the cultivated grape (vine).

 

This vine is stated to be native in the Orient and N.W. India
(Willis). Grape seeds and withered grapes are present in 

some samples.

          Grapes resembling raisins are recorded as occurring 

among offerings to the dead in Egyptian tombs (Schw. 1), and

raisins are quoted as forming an ingredient of Kyphi (Tsch.)
