               Phoenix dactylifera L. <[>Palmae<]>; Date Palm. 

Date-stone <(>mature<),> and immature date-fruits are present in  

some samples. 

          The Date Palm occurs in the Canaries and through the  

Oases of the Sahara to Arabia and South West Asia (E. Pr),  

but, owing to its having been cultivated throughout Tropical  

Africa from remote times, it is difficult to decide where  

it is truly indigenous. (Fl. Trop. Afr.).

          It was common throughout Egypt, and today is the  

principal Palm of the country, its fibre and fruit being of  

wide commercial value, especially among the fellaheen  

(Carter).
