Minnie C. Burton
She was born in Folkestone, Kent, 31 December 1875, daughter of Thomas Morton Duckett and Sarah Annie Williams. In 1902 she married Alexander B. F. Young (1876–1938), whom she divorced six years later. In 1914 she married the British archaeologist and photographer Harry Burton (1879–1940), and accompanied him on all his travels.
From 1922 to 1926 she kept a diary whose daily entries record social engagements and memorable events including the excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamun. It details her life with Harry, at home in Florence, their stays in Egypt (especially in Luxor, but also in Cairo), their trip across the United States and to Hollywood in 1924, and various holidays in Europe.
She died in Florence, Italy, 30 May 1957. Her grave is located in the Allori Cemetery, where her parents are also buried.
Minnie Burton's diary covers the first five seasons of the excavation, her last diary entry dates to 20 October 1926. However, it can be assumed that she accompanied her husband to Egypt throughout the period he was working with Howard Carter.
