that Margaret has passed her exam. Whether 

she decides to go up to Cambridge or 

not is another matter, but at least 

I like her to have her choice. 

          Darling, this is a very unpleasing 

letter, but I am dreadfully depressed 

and worried about old Carnarvon. I

just live under the shadow of his 

illness these days
