My darling Heddie

          I have wanted to write, but 

many things have kept me from 

doing so. x[?]/<Above all, poor old 

Carnarvon’s illness. I saw him on 

Tuesday for five minutes, and on 

Wednesday came his relapse. I have 

just come back from seeing Evelyn, 

it has been a bad day and 

he had a terrible crisis just before 

six o’clock this evening. I was 

quite miserable about it all on my 

birthday. Why am I so fond of him?
