7. Cleaned with strong ammonia & well washed
with water
Stick 98
Hard red wood with gold bands at top, one
plain, others ornamented with applied work in
tiny granules. Gold yellow, very slightly
tarnished, except one very narrow band which is
much tarnished. Four narrow bands have
coloured inlay. Washed with damp sponge &
damp brush.
Chair 39
Ebony – ebony & ivory inlay/<veneer>, gold studs: gilt gesso panels on arms.
Blew off dust with bellows: sponged solid parts
with damp sponge & inlay/<veneer> & gesso with damp brush.
Gold studs very tarnished: cleaned with ammonia &
washed with water. (The hin rudimentary toe on each of the front
back legs is x[?]/<ivory> coloured (apparently stained)
red.
Re-fastened inlay/<veneer> with Necol cement.
Treated gilt panels with melted paraffin wax
applied on hot chair (heated in sun) a by means of
a 10 cc pipette
When
unpacked in Cairo
a few small pieces of ebony veneer
found loose –
repaired with
glue.
