Tutankhamen on the outer<->most door <were still intact, except at the top, where the seals> were those of the royal nec-

ropolis. This showed that that part of the doorway had been re-

sealed at some time after the burial, and that therefore the

tomb must have been broken into at some time, to necessitate

this resealing by the officials. From evidence gained subse-

quently from the tomb, it is clear that this re-sealing of the

tomb took place in the reign of Horemheb, the next king but one

to Tutankhamen<,> which places the date at from 10 to 15 years after

Tutankhamen’s burial. So that any robbery was before that date<.>

When the rubble and stones which filled the passage

were removed, they again showed evidence of two fillings, the bulk

of the stone being clean white chip, but through this ran an ir-

regular tunnel of dark flint, showing where the passage made by

the robbers had been refilled. Next, at the end of the passage

came another doorway, again sealed and showing the same evidence

of resealing after the robbery. The anti/<e>chamber which contained

the most wonderful treasures ever found in so small a space, is

now empx[?]/<t>y. It took all of last season to remove the 700 objects it

contained. All these are now in the museum at Cairo, many already

on exhibition.

On the west wall was another doorway, but the hol<e> made in

it by the plunderers had not in this case been closed by the official

-ials. None of the object of this annex hav/<s>e yet been removed

and it is unlikely that the clearing of this part of the tomb

will be started until next season. It will not be easy. This

floor level chamber is in a state of indescribable confusion,

for the officials who cleared up the tomb and re-sealed it, did

not bother to tidy up the annexe, so that it is still exactly as

it was left by the burglars after they had hurriedly ransacked it.
