Again there does seem a tendency for the richer gold
to be developed in the south, the proportion of silver rising
in the northern mines.
Of course I realize that many more analyses are needed
to place these conclusions on a solid basis, but they are
interesting and perhaps significant.
In a Third Section I am dealing with some explanations
of the chemical cation in the quartz lodes which leads to the
formation of the enriched deposits of gold, based on an
important paper by Emmons on this subject. As regards the
silver, where it contains gold and is free of copper, I share
Lucas’ opinion that it is a natural product obtained from
Egypt itself. All the silver analysis published by Lucas
with over 1% of copper seem to be 18th or 19th dynasty.
The Hetepheres tomb silver contains 1.0%. Berthelot does
not mention copper in the 11th or 12th dynasty silver but as
he has up to 31% undetermined material in his analyses, the
result is not conclusive.
If you would like me to expand on any of the sectn/<i>ons>
I have mentioned, would you let me know in what direction you
are seeking for information.
Yours sincerely,
R W.F. Hume.
