Biography

British collector. He was born in-Brighton, 26 April 1883, only son of Richard 8. 3rd Baron Westbury and Agatha Manners; he was educated at Eton and Magdalen College, Oxford. He made a collection of small antiquities illustrating Egyptian art, of which the manuscript catalogue is in the Wilbour Library of Egyptology at the Brooklyn Museum, and was on the Committee of the EES, 1920-6. Bethelle assisted Howard Carter in the tomb of Tutankhamun. His collection was sold at Sotheby's, 15-17 Dec. 1924. Bethell died in London, 15 Nov. 1929.
