The above was given to me by Mr. Howard Carter.
A small specimen of material taken myself from the broken lid at 

a subsequent date consisted of a mixture of whiting and resin. 

It is suggested that the main cementing material was gypsum 

and that it was coated at the top with the mixture of whiting and 

rexsin in order to make it/<the light-coloured plaster> less noticeable. It was apparently this latter material that Dr Plenderleith examined. The matter could 

be settled by the examination of further specimens.
