Synopsis: the legend of Osiris. (Plutarch, De Iside Et Osiride).

The Great god Osiris, called 'Unnefer the triumphant', was

once a King who ruled over the Egyptians - When Egypt

was a barborous^sic {barbarous} country, when its inhabitants faught together,

ate human flesh, knew not the gods, and were a lawless

and savage people. Osiris shew them how to till land,

plant corn, and make wine; he taught them to honour

the gods, make laws, and thus abolish their babarous^sic {barbarous} customs.

At the hands of his vile and jealous brother Set and

his associates, Osiris was murdered. He entered into Duat,

became King of the Dead and Ruler of those who are in the West.

There, Osiris, Os/<as> when living upon Earth, rules wisely and

nobely^sic {nobly}, never to return to Earth again until he is avenged

by his Son Horus the child of Isis. To this day Horus

fights with Set, yet the decisive victory is not yet accomplished.

Legend of Horus and Set (Naville, Mythe d'Horus).

It was in the 363^rd year of the god Ra upon Earth the

great war between Horus and Set happened.

Ra gathered his forces, entered unto Thoth, the god

of magic, and received from him the power to change himself

into a great winged disk: a disk that glowed like a ball

of fire, having great wings brilliant like the sky at sunset,

shot with gold and flame.

Thus Horus, as a great winged disk, sat on the prow

of the Boat of Ra watching for his enemy Set.

Horus carried out four great encounters against

Set in the South and four in the North, but the last great

battle was not yet. Set transformed himself into a

hissing snake and entered the Earth.

Some say that the battle is already ended and that

Horus slew his wicked foe who had wrought misery

and calamity to all. But others say that the last

great battle is still to come, that Horus will kill Set,

and that Osiris will reign again on Earth.
